DIVA. No other word so eloquently defines singer/songwriter. A native to Chicago’s gritty south side, Kim was bred on a steady diet of gospel, R&B and jazz. She cites Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Minnie Riperton, Phyllis Hyman and Sara Vaughn as her musical influences. All, of which, play a major role in Kim’s classic soul and gospel-drenched musical repertoire.

Oddly, Kim never intended on being a recording artist. It was a chance meeting with Ten City’s Byron Stingily and Byron Burke in 1994 that provided her an opportunity to explore her soon-to-be burgeoning career. The trio penned ‘Nitelife’ and the song became Ms. English’s first Nervous Records single, and subsequently, an underground club smash.

At that time, the label realized they had stumbled upon something special. Kim’s evocative dulcet tones possessed a unique spiritual quality that set them apart from the more traditional ‘screaming’ diva vocalists were a lush serenade, sometimes contemplative and spiritual, yet always passionate. She had songs to sing and a message to deliver. She wanted to creep up on you while you LISTENED to the music and FELT her inspirational lyrics. For Kim her songs represent the belief that (to quote the Pattie LaBelle classic) “music is my way of life”.

Despite a successive string of well-received singles (including “Learn 2 Luv”, “Tomorrow” and “Missing You” success wouldn’t come for English until the release of “Unspeakable Joy”. The gospel-inflected gem pulled from her inspirational full-length debut “HIGHER THINGS”, catapulted the singer from underground house vocals to international dance diva.

On RE-ENERGIZED, new fans and old alike, are given an opportunity to revisit the singles and highlights from Kim’s critically acclaimed debut with a twist. This 10-song collection comprises remixes and reinterpretations of her material by some of the most innovative and respected names in the dance music industry, including the “legendary” JUNIOR VASQUEZ, RAZOR N GUIDO, JAZZ-N-GROOVE, MARK PICCHIOTTI AND CHRIS BRAN (AKA WAMBUE PROJECT).

From the sensorial soul-stirrings of “Been So Long” (Kim’s powerful remake of the Anita Baker classic retouched by WAMDUE PROJECT’S Chris Bran) to the thunderous # 1 Billboard Dance Music anthem “Unspeakable Joy” (her career highlight masterfully re-orated by progressive East Coast house team RAZOR N GUIDO). RE-ENERGIZED easily asserts Kim English as one of contemporary dance music’s most enduring and amenable talents.

The fitting and timely set also pairs Kim with an impressive array of up-and-coming producers on the dance music horizon including: MINDTRAP (Jason Ojeda and Motomo) who are responsible for English’s recent smash “Missing You”, MICHAEL T. DIAMOND “Supernatural”, FRIBURN & URICK “Time for Love”, BORIS & BECK “4 the Love of Music” and RIVERA & TRATTNER, who reinvent the classic “Nitelife” into a peak-hour house stomper.

Ultimately, RE-ENERGIZED is a powerful package that celebrates the voice and songs of Kim English. It is a mere glimpse into her world of perhaps a hint of things to come. Regardless, whether you’re dancing up a sweat on the dance floor or tapping your feet at home, these uplifting melodies will be there as a lasting testament to the power of music.

Feb. 2006 bring Kim back in a big way with a brand new full length CD (on Nervous Records) and new dance single called “It Makes A Difference” (remixed by Tony Moran).
